Bill of materials

requires Parts:

  1. 1 USB notebook camera with reasonable resolution (See note)
  2. 1 SMD voltage regulator 3.3V HT7333
  3. 1 SMD tantal capacitor 10 uF
  4. A little piece pcb material 0.5 mm
  5. A little piece tin plat
  6. USB cable of high quality
  7. Super glue
  8. soldering tin
  9. A piece of flex cable to get some thin wire
  10. A good flux for soldering

Required parts housing:

  1. Square tube aluminium 13 x 13 x 0.7mm 100mm long 
  2. Microscope cover glass 20 x 20 x 0.2
  3. Small piece of foam rubber
  4. Hot glue

Tools for the camera:

  1. Soldering station or fine soldering iron
  2. Tweezers
  3. Fine wire cutter
  4. Scissors
  5. Skalpel

Required tools for the housing:

  1. Puk saw
  2. Flat file
  3. Hot glue pistol
  4. Hair Dryer
  5. Drill 4.5 mm

The quality of the camera module is crucial. Here you should take a little time to figure out the best for your needs. There are many modules available with just a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. This is of course not state of the art today. Often they are described as “for note book XY”. Just investigate which notebook is equipped with which resolution camera.
